HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team improved to 2-0-0 on the season after it scored four goals at home against Yale on Saturday. Freshman Lauren Kelly (Milton, Ont.) led the way, scoring her first career goal in the first period. The Big Green are also perfect in conference play, while Yale dropped to 0-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in ECAC play.
Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn) scored her the game's first goal in the eighth minute of the contest. The forward took a shot from five feet inside the blueline, and it got by goaltender Erin Callahan. Although it was not a power play goal, the score happened two seconds after the power play ended, and before the Bulldog player could get back into the action.
The Big Green added another goal in the final seconds of the first period. With less than 10 seconds to play, the offense attacked hard, and sophomore Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Que.) found a streaking Kelly in front of the net. Kelly redirected the pass into the back of the net with two seconds remaining on the clock.
In the second period, Trunzo pushed the score to 3-0 on her second goal of the night. Geneva Kliman (Toronto, Ont.) and Sally Komarek (Minneapolis, Minn.) assisted on the goal. A miscommunication by the Big Green allowed the Bulldogs to score their only goal. Freshman Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.), making her first career start, left the net unattended when she thought Yale was going to be called for a penalty. The Bulldogs' Heather Grant took advantage by knocking in a slapshot into the empty net from just inside the redline. The score came with 6:25 remaining in the second period.
Dartmouth's Moira Scanlon (Chicago, Ill.) added the team's fourth goal with 3:34 remaining in the game. Junior Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) assisted on the goal. The Big Green overpowered Yale on offense with 38 shots. The Bulldogs could only muster 13 shots. Holdcroft made 12 saves and Callahan stopped 34 shots. Yale commited three penalties compared to Dartmouth's two.
The Big Green are back in action when they travels to Colgate on Friday, November 5, at 7 p.m.
