The teams are voted upon by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) in each of eight districts. Student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative gpa of 3.2 and are selected based on both their academic and athletic prowess. By virtue of their selection to the District I first team, Giudicelli and Olsen will both be on the ballot for national Academic All-America honors.
Giudicelli is making his second appearance on the all-district first team and it is the second-straight season that Dartmouth has had two players make the team.
Giudicelli, a senior defender, also earned a spot on the Academic All-District first team as a junior. A double major in sociology and economics, Giudicelli has excelled both on and off the field. As a defender, Giudicelli has contributed to 25 shutouts during his career. He has also tallied 17 career points on seven goals and three assists. He was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-East Third Team in 2009 and was honorable mention All-Ivy in 2008.
Olsen, a senior forward and co-captain, makes his Academic All-District debut. A sociology major, Olsen has had plenty of success on the field for Dartmouth, earning All-Ivy second team honors in 2008 and honorable mention in 2009. Olsen has been a starter since his freshman season, tallying 36 career points with 12 goals and 12 assists along the way. Remarkably, eight of his 12 career goals have been game-winners.
Nine Ivy Leaguers were selected to the two District I and II
teams. Dartmouth competes in District I, which is one of the most competitive in the
country, consisting of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New
York, Rhode Island, Vermont and five Canadian provinces.
The national Academic All-America teams will be announced on Nov. 16.
