HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's volleyball team ended its six-match losing streak last weekend, and looks to build on that when it hits the road this week. The squad heads into the weekend looking to win a couple of rematches against Ivy opponents. Dartmouth travels to Yale and Brown on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both teams came to Hanover earlier in the season and earned victories at Leede Arena. The Big Green are 13-8 overall and 4-6 in conference play.
Yale comes into the weekend with the best record in the Ivy League. The Bulldogs are 14-7 overall and 8-2 in conference matches. The team has won six consecutive matches and eight of its last 10. Bridget Hearst leads Yale with 270 kills (3.51 k/s) and Kelly Ozurovich is the team leader in digs with 413 (5.36).
Brown is on the other end of the spectrum, currently eighth in the conference. The Bears are 7-15 overall and 1-9 in league play. The team has lost three consecutive matches, and nine of its last 10. The lone victory came at Dartmouth. Emma Pastore leads the team with 208 kills (2.77 k/s) and Annika Gliottone leads in digs with 344 (4.35).
In the first match last weekend, Dartmouth took one on the chin with a 3-0 loss at Columbia. Junior Madeline Baird (Austin, Texas) led the team with 14 kills and 14 digs. She was the only Dartmouth player to record double-digit kills. Junior Amber Bryant (Libertyville, Ill.) led the defense with 11 digs.
Against Cornell, it was a different story with the Big Green coming from behind for a 3-2 victory. The offense was spread around for the Big Green with five players recording double-digit kills. Baird led the team with 21 kills and 20 digs. Sophomore Lexi Campbell (Solana Beach, Calif.) had a career-high 16 kills, senior Kelsey Johnson (Carlsbad, Calif.) tallied 12, freshman Elisa Scudder (Ashburn, Va.) had 12 and junior Annie Villanueva (Santa Barbara, Calif.) recorded 10. The defense was spread around too, with five players with double-digit digs. Besides Baird, Johnson had 22, Bryant racked up 25, Campbell recorded 14 and Alissa Santa Maria (Yorba Linda, Calif.) tallied 15.
On the year, Baird leads the team in kills (321), and was rewarded this past week with the Ivy Player of the Week award. It is the second time this season that she earned the honor, and it's the third time for a Dartmouth player. Junior Kendall Houston (Austin, Texas) also garnered the award on September 7. Houston leads the team in assists (473). Scudder (Ashburn, Va.) continues to make her mark, leading the team in hitting percentage (.317) and blocks (62). The best back-row player for Dartmouth is Bryant who leads the team with 414 digs.
