Women's Tennis Falls in ECAC Final to Yale

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - The fifth-seeded Dartmouth women's tennis team fell 4-0 to third-seeded Yale in the final of the ECAC Winter Championship this afternoon at Harvard.

The country's No. 44 ranked team, Yale was the tournament's defending champion and bested No. 2 seed Harvard yesterday. Dartmouth's record now moves to 7-1.

Yale won the doubles point as junior Molly Scott (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) and senior Mary Beth Winingham (Carmel, Ind.) lost for the first time this season to the tough tandem of Lindsay Clark and Vicky Brook 8-4. Freshman Sarah Leonard (Norwalk, Conn.) and sophomore Carissa King (Charlotte, N.C.) fell 8-5 at No. 2, and senior co-captain Jesse Adler (Winnetka, Ill.) and junior Georgiana Smyser's (Houston, Texas) match at No. 3 was suspended after Yale clinched the doubles point.

In singles, juniors Scott and junior Ryan Reichel (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) were still on the court, both having won their first sets at No. 1 and No. 6 respectively, when Yale clinched the match and the remaining matches were suspended. Adler was also still battling, down a set and 3-4. Leonard was stopped in straight sets at No. 2 by Brook, Winingham fell at No. 3 to Rhee, and Smyser was edged at No. 5 by Yale's blue-chip freshman, Elizabeth Epstein.

Dartmouth returns to action against UMass on Thursday, February 25, at 5 p.m.
