HANOVER, NH – Freshman Connor Reilly (Niskayuna, N.Y.) set the Dartmouth record in the 60m dash to help the Big Green men's track and field team to a third-place finish at the 2010 Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championships.
Reilly broke the record with a first-place finish in the event with a time of 6.86 seconds, while senior Muhammed Abdul-Shakoor (Stone Moutain, Ga.) took third, crossing the line at 6.91 seconds. It was the second time Reilly had set the record as he did it at the second meet of the season, after Abdul-Shakoor broke the record at Dartmouth Relays.
Sophomore Robert Contuzzi (Northampton, Mass.) finished second in the heptathlon with 4949 points, which was an IC4A qualifier. Cornell's Joshua Kirkpatrick won the event and ran away with it with 5160 points.
The Big Green also had a successful field day. Senior Ted Lesher (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) took second in the triple jump with a mark of 15.25 meters (50-05.25), while junior David Irving (Manchester, N.H.) came up with a third-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 18.02 meters (59-01.5). Freshman Barret Folk (Memphis, Tenn.) had an impressive first Ivy Heps with a fifth-place mark in the pole vault as he cleared the bar at 4.8 meters (15-09).
In the track events, the 4 x 400 relay led the way with a fifth-place finish at 3:23.93, which was an IC4A qualifier. Lesher also competed in the 60 meter hurdles and ended up sixth in that event with a time of 8.32 seconds.
Sophomore John Turro (Katonah, N.Y.) came through with a seven-place run in the 1000 meters and an IC4A qualifying time after crossing the line at 2:29.66. Sophomore Ethan Shaw (Falmouth, Maine) and senior Chris Zablocki (Essex, Conn.) also posted IC4A times in the 5000 meters and placed eighth and ninth, respectively. Shaw ended up at 14:38.3, while Zablocki wasn't far behind with a time of 14:39.01.
Princeton won the team title with a total of 181 points, while Cornell took second with 149. Dartmouth came in third with 55 total points. The Tigers ended up sweeping both the men's and women's titles.
The Big Green will be back on the track next weekend at IC4A Championships in Boston, beginning on Saturday.
