HANOVER, N.H. - Senior co-captain Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) tallied her 150th career point and the Dartmouth women's hockey team came away with a 4-2 win over Brown on Senior Night at Thompson Arena.
Parsons netted a goal and added an assist in the win and became only the eighth skater in Dartmouth history to reach 150 points in a career. Freshman Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Que.) posted two goals for the second straight night, while junior Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Mass.) recorded a goal in the win. Senior Sarah Kennedy (Jasper, Alta.) earned her first start since her freshman season, before being relieved by classmate Mariel Lacina (London, Ont.) in the first frame. Lacina got the win with 18 saves, while Kennedy made one save in her four minutes of ice time.
Brown (2-18-4, 0-15-3 ECAC, 0-8-0 Ivy) got two goals from Erica Fareer, while Jenna Dancewicz was credited with an assist. Katie Jamieson took the loss in net, making 32 saves, including 15 in the first 20 minutes.
Brown got the scoring started 3:22 into the opening frame on a goal by Farrer, with the assist going to Dancewicz. Dancewicz broke into the zone and put a shot on Kennedy, who was playing high and made the save, but couldn't cover the puck and Farrer skated in to hit the open net.
Dartmouth (10-12-2, 7-10-1 ECAC, 5-5-0 Ivy) got even on the power play as Parsons netted her 17th goal of the season and fifth on the man advantage. Sophomore Moira Scanlon (Chicago, Ill.) fired a shot on net that was blocked by senior co-captain Jenna Cunningham (Medicine Hat, Alta.) and the puck came loose to Parsons, who snuck one inside the near post to make it 1-1.
Dumais gave Dartmouth its first lead of the game at 2-1 off of a face-off in the offensive zone. Freshman Sally Komarek (Minneapolis, Minn.) won the puck to senior Sarah Toupal (White Bear Lake, Minn.), who tipped it to Dumais. She did the rest alone against Jamieson, beating her to the far post
from the slot.
Farrer tied the score at 2-2 in the third on a nice give-and-go with Nicole Brown. Brown made a nice tape-to-tape pass with Farrer who hit the open net just inside the far post. Dartmouth fired back just 14 seconds later as Dumais netted her second of the night and the eventual game-winner to make it 3-2. Her initial shot was stopped by Jamieson, but Dumais was able to get her own rebound and beat the Brown netminder above the knob of the stick.
Trunzo gave the Big Green some insurance at 4-2. Parsons fought for the puck along the side boards and it squirted free to Trunzo. She skated from the back of the net uncontested and beat Jamieson easily to put Dartmouth up by two-goals.
The Big Green got one power play goal in three chances, while Brown went scoreless on the man advantage in three opportunities. Dartmouth moved into the eighth and final playoff spot after losses by Colgate and Yale today. The Big Green is know tied with Yale for that eighth spot, but has beaten the Bulldogs twice this season.
Dartmouth also honored its 2010 seniors in a pre-game ceremony. Seniors Parsons, Cunningham, Kennedy, Lacina, Toupal and Sue Schmitz (Brookfield, Wis.) were all given a nice send off prior to the game.
The Big Green will look to build on the weekend sweep as Dartmouth hits the road for the first time in a month next weekend. The Big Green travels to Rensselaer and Union, beginning on Friday night.
