HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team will hope to jump a couple of spots in the standings to keep its postseason hopes alive as Penn comes to Hanover for a 1 p.m. start on Senior Day at Scully-Fahey Field. The Big Green will also be honoring its 12 seniors prior to faceoff.
IVY TOURNAMENT BREAKDOWN
Dartmouth has the easier game among the bottom teams on Saturday, record-wise, compared to Harvard who hosts No. 6 Princeton on Saturday, while Brown gets to travel to Ithace to take on No. 8 Cornell on its home turf. The Bears sit at 2-2 in the league and Harvard is tied with Dartmouth, but owns the tie-breaker with the win over the Big Green on March 27. If Harvard and Brown should lose and Dartmouth beats Penn, the Big Green would leap frog Harvard and be tied with Brown going into the matchup next week. If the Big Green should lose on Saturday, Dartmouth would still be mathematically alive, but would need help.
BACK ON TRACK
The Big Green offense came alive in its first game against a non-ranked opponent in the last seven games as Dartmouth defeated Vermont, 18-13, on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Ari Sussman paced the Big Green with a season-high seven points on five goals and two assists, while rookie Chris Costabile added five goals of his own in the win. It was the second time this season Dartmouth had reached 18 goals, with the first coming against Wagner in an 18-9 win on March 11.
STREAKING SUSSMAN
Senior attackman Ari Sussman is the lone Dartmouth player that has scored in each game this season for the Big Green with his largest output coming on Tuesday with seven points. He started the season with five points each in the first three games and has eight multi-point games in the 10 contests this year.
LONG-STICK SCORING
Senior Casey Hingtgen became the first long-pole to score this season and he netted two goals in the win over Vermont on Saturday. He is the lone player with a long stick that has points.
HOLDING ONTO A LEAD
In all of Dartmouth's wins this season, the Big Green has taken an early lead and doesn't give it up. Dartmouth is 4-1 when entering the second half with the lead with the lone loss coming at Harvard, where the Big Green had a 7-3 lead at the break.
SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
Dartmouth hosts Ivy foe Penn on Senior Day as the Big Green will be playing its final home game of the season and only its fourth on home turf. Dartmouth is averaging under eight goals a game and has only reached double-digits twice this season. The Catamounts will be the first unranked team Dartmouth will face since Wagner on March 11.
Senior captain Ari Sussman is the top point man for Dartmouth. Prior to the win at Vermont, he was fifth in the Ivy League in points per game at 3.22 . He is tops on the Big Green with 36 points on 22 goals and 14 helpers. Junior Josh Etzion remains second on the team with 24 points after a goal and two assists in the win over the Catamounts.
