HANOVER, NH - Senior Dan Freeman (Chatsworth, Calif.) closed out his Dartmouth career with second team All-Ivy honors in both singles and doubles as the Ivy League released its postseason awards for men's tennis yesterday evening.
Freeman and sophomore Michael Laser (Glencoe, Ill.) partnered up to earn second team All-Ivy at No. 1 doubles with a 4-3 mark in Ivy League play this season. The duo had an up and down season prior to Ivy competition with a 6-6 mark in non-conference dual matches dating back to the first winter match on Feb. 23. The two had a season-long four-match winning streak from March 7 to March 21, with three of the wins coming on the spring trip. The two earned victories over Penn, Princeton, Harvard and Brown. They finished the year with four wins in their last five opportunities.
Freeman was named second team in singles as well with a 3-4 mark in Ivy League play. Three of his seven matches went three sets and he was 2-1 in those matches against Penn, Princeton and Columbia. He failed to win a game only twice during the Ivy season, making it tough for him to be put away by opponents. Freeman went 7-5 in non-conference matchups. He started the indoor season with a pair of wins over Army and the rest of his year was a back-and-forth battle. He broke the streak of trading wins and losses with a couple of victories on the spring trip over Nevada and UC San Diego.
For both Freeman and Laser, it is the first time in their careers they have earned postseason honors from the Ivy League.
