HANOVER, NH - The No. 47 Dartmouth women's tennis team swept Columbia 7-0 at the Boss Tennis Center today. The Big Green moves to 15-2 (2-0 Ivy League), while the Lions fall to 9-10 (0-3 Ivy League).
Dartmouth swept the doubles as senior
Mary Beth Winingham (Carmel, Ind.) and junior
Molly Scott (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) continued their winning ways at No. 1 with an 8-3 victory over freshmen Nicole Bartnik and Chelsea Davis. Senior co-captain
Jesse Adler (Winnetka, Ill.) and junior
Georgiana Smyser (Houston, Texas) moved up to the No. 2 spot today and won 8-1, while senior co-captain
Julia Zak (Bernardsville, N.J.) and
Carissa King (Charlotte, N.C.) pulled out an 8-7 win at No. 3.
In singles, Columbia pulled their top player, Bartnik, the country's No. 112 player. So the Big Green's Scott squared off instead at No. 1 against Natasha Makarova, an opponent she had faced many times in USTA Southern California junior tennis. Scott won 7-5, 6-3. Freshman
Sarah Leonard (Norwalk, Conn.), who sat out the doubles today, made quick work of Chelsea Davis at No. 2, winning 6-0, 6-1. Winingham won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3, and Adler was the first player off the court thanks to a resounding 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4. Smyser also won in straight sets at No. 5, while senior
Carley Markovitz (South Pasadena, Calif.) made it a clean sweep for the Big Green by downing Natalia Christenson at No. 6 in a third set super-breaker.
The Big Green travels to Penn and Princeton next weekend, and plays its next home match on April 16 at 3 p.m. against Yale.
