PHILADELPHIA - The No. 48 Dartmouth women's tennis team downed the University of Pennsylvania, 6-1, this afternoon to move to 3-0 in Ivy League play. The Big Green moved to 16-2 overall, while the Quakers fell to 4-12 (0-4 Ivy League).
Dartmouth swept the doubles as sophomore
Carissa King (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman
Sarah Leonard (Norwalk, Conn.) were the first team off the court for the Big Green, winning 8-5 at No. 2. They were followed by senior co-captain
Jesse Adler (Winnetka, Ill.) and junior
Georgiana Smyser (Houston, Texas) who won 8-6 at No. 3. Senior
Mary Beth Winingham (Carmel, Ind.) and junior
Molly Scott (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) completed the sweep with an 8-7 (4) victory at No. 1.
In singles, senior
Carley Markovitz (South Pasadena, Calif.) made quick work of her opponent at No. 5, winning 6-0, 6-0. Adler also won handily at No. 3, recording a 6-2, 6-0 victory, and senior co-captain
Julia Zak (Bernardsville, N.J.) also won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6. Scott downed Emily Wolf 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 and Winingham won 6-2, 7-6 (5) at No. 2 over Alexa Ely.
Dartmouth takes on Princeton tomorrow at 12 noon.
