Hello Everyone,
We are three weeks removed from the Ivy Championship and have been looking back
on a wonderful year for Dartmouth golf. I received an email from a recruit thinking
that our fourth-place finish at the Ivies was a big disappointment. I can tell
you that we lost the title by just 12 strokes, which amounts to one shot per golfer
each round. The good Lord knows how close a lot of teams were. Our kids are on
the brink of achieving our goals here at Dartmouth. Without a doubt this is a
major challenge for many different reasons. I just think we need to continue to
do things the right way and at some point it will all pay off. This was a fantastic
year from the coach's standpoint. The kids really came together as a group and
made it such a fun year. They worked hard both on and off the course.
The team had its banquet this week and said goodbye to three seniors who played
a big role in the comeback of Dartmouth golf. The members of my first recruiting
class have completed their four years, and it brings tears to my eyes knowing
they will never board the van for another adventurous road trip for the Big Green.
David Putney just competed in his fourth Ivy Championship and found the magic
all four years when it mattered the most. Upon our arrival back in Hanover at
1 a.m. on that final Sunday, we took two trips around Occum Pond while singing
the new Dartmouth retirement song. It is a moment that will be etched in our hearts
forever.
I am so proud to be the coach and just thrilled to have such a big impact on the
lives and future of these kids. Your support has been a big boost for the team
and makes me glad we can all enjoy the journey together.
The Dartmouth Invitational will be played Sept. 24-26, 2010 with the alumni plyaing
on the morning of Friday the 24th. I am hoping this will give all of you plenty
of notice in order to join the team, meet the kids and have some fun. Our team
next season could be our best for many years to come. It will be a good time to
come cheer on your team. We need one big turnout by the alumni to get the ball
rolling. Just send me an email for more information.
Once again I would like to thank Shun Aonuma,
Dave Putney and
Dan Egan for gracing
the fairways of HCC over these past four years. I guess you have figured out that
I love these kids like my own, and saying goodbye to them is not easy for me to
do. All three will have a big impact on the world. Good luck and God bless.
