HANOVER, NH - Senior long-stick Casey Hingtgen (Carlsbad, Calif.) was selected first team All-Ivy, while captain Ari Sussman (New Haven, Conn.) and sophomore goaltender Fergus Campbell (New Canaan, Conn.) earned second team honors.
Hingtgen was a two-time second team section prior to this year and with a career-high three goals this season made the first team, becoming the first Dartmouth player to earn top team honors since Sussman in 2008. The senior defenseman was a faceoff specialist for the Big Green and won 70 draws during the season. He won 12 huge faceoffs against Brown last Saturday and gave Dartmouth countless opportunities. Hingtgen scored a career-high two goals in the 18-13 win at Vermont on April 20. He was the first long stick to score in the first 10 games of the season. He added another goal two games later at Bryant in the 7-5 loss.
He was a huge presence in the middle of the defense as he led the team with 22 caused turnovers and with an average of 2.2 a contest, he was ranked fifth in the nation. He led the Big Green with 55 ground balls and averaged 5.5 ground balls per game, putting him 13th in the country in the category. Hingtgen was eight away from tying his career-high of 63, which came as a freshman.
Sussman finished off his Dartmouth career with second team honors after a 44-point season on 25 goals and 19 assists. This is the third time in his four-year career that he has earned All-Ivy honors. He was an honorable mention recipient and Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2007 and first team honoree in 2008. Sussman ended up with 163 career points, which ranks him fifth all-time in Big Green history. His 97 goals are eighth and his 66 helpers put him sixth. Sussman is one of only two players in the 84-year history of the lacrosse program to rank in the top-10 in goals, assists and points.
The Dartmouth attackman scored in 12 of the 13 games this season, including an 11-game scoring streak to start the season. He put multi-points on the board in 10 games, including a career-high seven points on five goals and two assists at Vermont. He collected six points in the next game versus Penn with a goal and five assists and was named the Turfer New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Player of the Week after 13 points in two games. Sussman started the year with three-straight games with five points and two of those games came with three goals and two assists.
Campbell had an incredible year for Dartmouth after coming off the bench and earning the starting job after the first five games of the season. He led the Ivy League in save percentage at .584 and was fifth nationally. Campbell averaged 10.73 saves per contest, which put him second in the league and fifth in the country.
He posted double-digit saves in six games, including the last three games of the season. Campbell opened eyes on the national lacrosse scene with 23 saves in the 8-6 win over No. 6 Cornell at Gillette Stadium and had his most important game with 16 stops in the 15-11 win over Penn to keep the Big Green in the Ivy Tournament race going into the final weekend. He finished with a 3-5 record overall and a 2-3 mark in Ivy play. He also picked up 30 ground balls, which was second on the team behind Hingtgen.
Cornell sophomore Rob Pannell was voted as the unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year and Princeton freshman Mike Chanenchuk was the Ivy League Rookie of the Year and he was selected unanimously. Both were first team selections as well.
