HANOVER, N.H. — The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams yesterday, and Dartmouth outfielder
Sam Bean was selected for the second team in District I.
Bean, a junior government major with a 3.45 GPA from Needham, Mass., is batting .317 this season while playing in 29 of the Rolfe Division champion's 38 games with 15 starts. In 63 at-bats, he has 20 hits, four doubles and a triple while scoring 17 runs, thanks in large part to his .421 on-base percentage which is second on the squad among the players with at least 10 plate appearances. In the field he has not committed an error in 47 chances and leads the team with four outfield assists.
Bean is one of eight Ivy League baseball players named to the either the first- or second-teams in a district. He is the first Big Green player to earn the honor since 2008 when Erik Bell '08 was chosen for the second team as well.
Dartmouth (23-15, 13-7 Ivy) plays in the best-of-three Ivy Championship Series against host Columbia (25-19, 14-6) beginning on Saturday, May 8 in a doubleheader beginning at noon. Video and audio of the games will be streamed live over the internet for free at www.DartmouthSports.com.
