HANOVER, N.H. — After the University of Miami topped Texas A&M, 10-3, to win the baseball regional it hosted, Dartmouth junior Sam Bean (Needham, Mass.) was named to the Coral Gables Regional All-Tournament Team. He was the lone Big Green player to be so honored.
The Big Green left fielder hit .571 (8-for-14) in Dartmouth's three games in Miami, including a career-high four hits in five trips to the plate against the host Hurricanes in the first game while scoring two runs. Bean followed that performance up with a 3-for-4 day with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs in a 15-9 triumph over FIU. In the final game for Dartmouth, a 4-3 loss to 20th-ranked Texas A&M, Bean kept the Big Green's hopes alive in the ninth with a two-out single before the Aggies won the elimination game.
Bean finished the season with a .347 average in 101 at-bats with nine doubles, two triples, 28 runs and 10 RBIs while reaching base at a .422 clip. He fielded 62 chances in the field flawlessly and tied for the team lead with five outfield assists. Earlier this year Bean was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I Second Team with a 3.45 GPA.
Dartmouth finished the season with a record of 27-19, setting school records for games played (46), innings pitched (379.0) and fielding percentage (.975). Big Green pitchers will finish the season leading the nation in fewest walks per nine innings at a measly 1.95.
