Dartmouth Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award

HANOVER, N.H. – Recently the Dartmouth women's volleyball team earned the 2009-10 American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award.

Since 1993, the AVCA Team Academic Award has been presented to collegiate and high school volleyball teams that have displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

In 2009-10, 94 Division I schools earned the academic award as the NCAA Division I Women's division had the highest number of teams honored, as well as the largest percentage of teams honored at 34%. In all, 450 teams from eight collegiate and high school divisions earned recognition from the AVCA, breaking the previous record of 409 teams from a year ago.

Dartmouth finished with a 11-13 overall record last fall and was 7-7 in the Ivy League. The Big Green opens its season at the Sacred Heart Invitational on Sept. 3-4.
