HANOVER, N.H. — Left-hander Kyle Hunter was selected as the Pitcher of the Year for the New York Collegiate Baseball League this summer, allowing just three earned runs over 39.2 innings in seven appearances for a miniscule 0.68 ERA. The rising sophomore was a perfect 5-0 in the regular season, striking out 33 batters and coming one out away from tossing a no-hitter.
He led his team, the Amsterdam Mohawks, to the league championship by winning both of his starts without giving up a single run over 14 innings while fanning 14 and allowing just seven baserunners. The Mohawks finished the season with a 27-15 record and won all six of their games in the three rounds of playoffs.
Also on the Mohawks was rising senior Jason Brooks, who hit .286 in 33 regular-season game with nine doubles, two homers and 22 RBIs.
