Dartmouth Volleyball is Set for its Final Tournament of the Season

HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's volleyball team will be taking its undefeated record and traveling to the University of New Hampshire for matches against UNH, Rutgers and Sacred Heart this weekend at the Holly Young Invitational. The Big Green will square off with the host Wildcats on Friday at 6:00 before taking on Rutgers and Sacred Heart on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Madeline Baird (Austin, Texas) picked up the volleyball team's second Ivy League Player of the Week award as the junior had a whopping 46 kills and a .317 hitting percentage last weekend while recording three service aces and 44 digs. Baird also picked up her second All-Tournament team nod.

Classmate Annie Villanueva (Santa Barbara, Calif.) was also named to the Quinnipiac Invitational All-Tournament Team after recording 23 kills with a .298 hitting percentage, helping Dartmouth to it's sixth win in a row.

Currently Baird and Villanueva are tops on the squad with 93 and 72 kills, respectively. Baird also leads with 95 digs while Villanueva is second with 16 blocks. Freshman Elisa Scudder (Ashburn, Va.) is the team's leading blocker with 18 and Kendall Houston (Austin, Texas) is the top setter with 212.

The Big Green has lost just three sets all season as the team is averaging almost 14 kills game with a .225 hitting percentage and 44 total blocks.

Dartmouth and UNH first met on Sept. 23, 1989 at the UNH Invitational. The Big Green came away with the victory as Dartmouth proceeded to rack up 13-straight wins over the Wildcats over the next eight years. UNH was able to break that streak on Nov. 5, 1997 and has since won nine of the last 12 meetings.

These two teams met for the first time on Nov. 17, 1999 with Rutgers coming away with a 3-0 win. Last season they met again in a neutral site contest that had the Big Green coming from two sets down to tie the match before eventually falling to the Scarlet Knights, 3-2.

Dartmouth and Sacred Heart began meeting on Oct. 2, 1999. The Big Green has won every match up between the two sides with the last victory coming on Oct. 1, 2005 at Harvard. Dartmouth has won all three matches by the same, 3-0 score.
