BREAK THE RECORD: Dartmouth looks to break the Burnham Field attendance record
on Saturday night against New Mexico. Dating back to its first season in 2007,
Dartmouth boasts a 21-4-3 record on Burnham Field, making it an intimidating
yet pristine environment for visiting teams. For a nationally-televised game
against Brown on Nov. 14, 2008, Dartmouth broke the Burnham Field record with a
sellout crowd of 2,114 and the team hopes to break that mark on Saturday.
Dartmouth has led the Ivy League in attendance for the last three seasons,
welcoming an average of 1,000+ fans for two of those years.
A LOOK AT DARTMOUTH: Dartmouth (3-2) is back at Burnham for
its fourth home game of the young season, hosting New Mexico after a trip to
Illinois for the Bradley University tournament. In Peoria, the Big Green
knocked off Bradley, 2-1, before coming up just short against #14 Creighton,
losing 3-2 in overtime. Dartmouth's offense has been well-spread this fall -
Teo Larsson-Sax leads the team with two goals and then seven players have
scored once. Six players have recorded an assist. Defensively, sophomore
goalkeeper Sean Donovan has already been tested much more than during his
rookie campaign. He has already made 14 saves this fall after making 29 all of
last season. He helped build up those numbers with a career-high eight saves in
the loss to Creighton on Sept. 19.
A LOOK AT NEW MEXICO: New Mexico (3-1-2) is leaving the friendly confines of
the UNM Soccer Complex for the first time this season. The Lobos have played
all six games at home including hosting tournaments on back-to-back weekends.
They are off to a solid start, losing only to #18 Portland, 2-1, and recently
earning a 1-1 tie with #6 Harvard, who Dartmouth hosts on Oct. 30. The New
Mexico offense has been fairly spread out and only Levi Rossi and Lance
Rozeboom have more than one goal, with two each. Rozeboom is the overall
leading scorer with five points. Justin Holmes has played five full matches in
goal with a 1.11 goals against average, while Victor Rodriguez kept a clean
sheet in a 1-0 shutout of Buffalo this past weekend.
ASSAULTING THE RECORD BOOKS: Two current Dartmouth players have already inked their names on the program record books for scoring. Junior Lucky Mkosana (Bulwayo, Zimbabwe) should have his sights set on the career records for both goals and points as he was more than halfway to both marks after just two collegiate seasons. After the season-opener, Mkosana now has 20 career goals, which ranks ninth and is 13 away from the record of 33, held by Bob Drawbaugh '54. He also has 47 career points, tied for seventh and just 30 points away from Vladdy Stanojevic's '90 record of 77. Senior Daniel Keat currently has 42 career points, which has him tied for 12th all-time.
NEXT TIME OUT: Dartmouth hits the road for three-straight contests, starting at UMass on Sept. 29 and opening up the Ivy slate at Princeton on Saturday Oct. 2. The Big Green also plays at regional rival Vermont on Oct. 6.
