HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team suffered a tough overtime loss on Friday at Thompson Arena. After the Big Green overcame a 2-1 deficit to push the game into the extra frame, Clarkson scored with two minutes remaining in the first overtime to win 3-2. The loss dropped Dartmouth to 9-7-0 overall and 6-5-0 in the ECAC. The win improved the Golden Knights to 7-12-3 overall and 4-5-1 in conference play.
With just over two minutes remaining in the first overtime, Clarkson attacked the Big Green defense. Melissa Waldie took the break away and fired a shot at Dartmouth goaltender Whitney Woodcox (Oshawa, Ont.). Woodcox blocked the first shot, but Juana Baribeau picked up the rebound to score the game-winning goal.
The two teams played a scoreless first period. Dartmouth broke the tie less than a minute into the second period. Junior Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) scored a power play goal in front of the net off a pass from junior Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alta.). It was Foley's eighth goal of the season. The Golden Knights responded six minutes later off a goal from Jamie Lee Rattray. Clarkson took the lead three minutes after that off the stick of Carly Mercer.
In the third period, sophomore Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ont.) scored the equalizer when the Big Green held a two-man advantage. After Clarkson committed two penalties, Dartmouth used the opportunity to score. Nanji took a pass from junior Jenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.) and fired in the puck from just inside the blue line. It marked Nanji's 11th goal of the season. The two teams remained tied for the rest of regulation.
The Big Green scored two power play goals, while Clarkson went 0-for-3 with an extra man. The Golden Knights committed six penalties to three by Dartmouth. It was only the second loss of the season at home for the Big Green.
Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday when it hosts St. Lawrence at 4 p.m. at Thompson Arena.
