HANOVER, N.H. — For the second straight day, the Dartmouth women's hockey team dropped a home game after losing to St. Lawrence on Saturday, 4-2. The Big Green never led, and allowed two goals in the final period. Dartmouth dropped to 9-8-0 overall and 6-6-0 in the ECAC. St. Lawrence improved to 10-11-2 overall and 5-6-0 in the conference.
The Saints grabbed the lead 11 minutes in the first period off the stick of Vanessa Emond. Emond shot the puck off goaltender Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and it deflected into the back of the net. It appeared St. Lawrence would enter the first intermission with the lead but junior Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) had other ideas. After a couple of quick passes, the forward used a counterattack and found the right side of the goal with 58 seconds remaining in the period. It marked Foley's ninth goal of the season.
In the second period, the Saints struck again this time off the stick of Kelly Sabatine. Karell Emard took a shot, Holdcroft blocked it but Sabatine was right there to score on the rebound. The Big Green tied the game four minutes later when junior Erica Dobos (Bethel Park, Pa.) took the puck from center ice and beat the goaltender Maxie Weisz one-on-one.
In the third period, the Saints scored two more goals to put the game out of reach. St. Lawrence had another goal taken off the scoreboard after reply showed a defender was in the crease. The Saints did not commit a penalty in the game, and the Big Green had only two. Holdcroft had a career high 34 saves in the loss.
Dartmouth doesn't have much time to focus on the loss, because the team plays at Vermont on Tuesday at 7 p.m. This is the rescheduled game from Dec. 29.
