HANOVER, N.H. — In the Big Green's first match of 2011, the Dartmouth women's tennis team defeated the Temple Owls 5-2 on Saturday at the Boss Tennis Center. Senior tri-captain Molly Scott (Trabuco Cyn, Calif.), the Northeast Region's fourth-ranked singles player, made quick work of Lucie Pazderova at No. 1 singles, dropping only two games.

Scott and freshman Melissa Matsuoka (Newport Beach, Calif.), ranked No. 6 in Northeast Region doubles, also won handily at No. 1 doubles. Matsuoka won in straight sets at No. 2 singles, and senior tri-captain Ryan Reichel (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) also won in straight sets at third singles. Freshman Sabrina Stewart (London, England) fell in three sets at fourth singles to the Owls former No. 1 player, Elyse Steiner. And while senior tri-captain Georgiana Smyser (Houston, Texas) was edged at No. 5 singles, she combined with Reichel for a victory at No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point for Dartmouth. Freshman Valeriya Tatisheva (New York, N.Y.) battled back from a 1-4 second set deficit to win 6-1, 6-4 at sixth singles.

The Big Green travel to Clemson on January 29 for the ITA Kick Off Weekend. Dartmouth qualified for this prestigious event by being one of the country's top 60 teams in 2010, and will compete against Clemson, Vanderbilt and Marshall.
