NEW HAVEN, CONN. — Senior Peter Williamson (Hanover, N.H.) leads the Macdonald Cup after the first round with a 5-under-par 65 at the Yale University Golf Course. Dartmouth sits in third place in the 14-team event.
The host team, Yale, leads the event with an even-par 280. Princeton sits in second with a 6-over-par 286 and the Big Green shot an 8-over-par 288 in the opening round. The par-70 6,749-yard course was no match for Williamson on Saturday. The senior shot a 31 on the front and a 34 on the back for his 65. Brendan Doyle of Columbia is in second with a 3-under-par 67, and Evan Harmeling and PJ Fielding are tied for third at 2-under par.
Helping Dartmouth is sophomore Joey Maziar (Atlanta, Ga.) who shot a 2-over-par 72 and is currently in a tie for 13th. Junior James Pleat (Nashua, N.H.) is at 3-over-par in a tie for 22nd, sophomore Gavin Duarte is tied for 37th at 5-over-par and senior Teddy Overton (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) is tied for 62nd at 8-over-par.
The tournament continues on Sunday with Williamson looking to hold on to the top spot and the Big Green looking to move up the leaderboard.
