HANOVER, N.H. — On Sunday, Dartmouth men's lacrosse head coach Andy Towers was inducted into the Connecticut Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Towers, along with seven other inductees, were honored at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington, Conn. for their contribution and performance to the sport of lacrosse in Connecticut.
Towers played for Howard Benedict at New Canaan High School where he led the Rams to three straight State Championship game wins over Wilton, set a single season scoring record with 98 points as a midfielder, won 90 percent of his face-offs, and was named All FCIAC, all-state and High School All American.
In 1998 he was named to the first United States U-19 National Team. He went on to play at Brown where he led the Bruins to Ivy and New England titles, was named a Division I All-American three times (twice to the first team as a midfielder and once honorable mention as an attackman), All-Ivy three times (twice first team and once second team), All-New England First Team three times and Ivy League Player of the Year once. He is the current record holder at Brown for goals in a season (59) and in a career (150).
After college, Towers continued his playing career in the professional indoor (National Lacrosse League - Philadelphia Wings, Boston Blazers, New York Saints) and outdoor (Major League Lacrosse - Boston Cannons, Bridgeport Barrage) leagues, earning All-Star honors in Major League Lacrosse while leading the league in face-off winning percentage at 58 percent.
His involvement in lacrosse has continued as a coach, first as an assistant at Brown, Yale, and Fairfield, then as head coach at Hartford, and currently for the Big Green, where he is in his third year leading the program.
Tower was inducted along with Frank Barron, Howard Benedict, Jeff Bramier, Patti Klecha-Porter, David Lette, Culver Modisette and Maureen O'Shea.
