CANTON, N.Y. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team won at St. Lawrence on Friday off the game-winning goal of junior Moira Scanlon (Chicago, Ill.). Scanlon broke the 2-2 tie with 3:23 remaining in the game to give the Big Green a 3-2 victory. Dartmouth improved to 16-9-0 overall and 12-7-0 in the ECAC. The Saints fell to 13-15-2 overall and 8-10-0 in the conference.
The two teams entered the third period in a 2-2 tie. St. Lawrence took 13 shots in the final period, but couldn't score the needed goal. Scanlon's score came off of assists from sophomores Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Que.) and Sally Komarek (Minneapolis, Minn.). It marked Scanlon's third goal of the season. Dartmouth was able to fend off a late penalty and the Saints pulling their goaltender.
The Big Green struck first with just under two minutes remaining in the first period. Junior Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) scored with 1:40 left in the period, off assists from sophomores Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ont.) and Lisa Berreman (Eagan, Minn.). The Saints outshot Dartmouth in the first period, but freshman Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made 13 saves in the opening frame to give the team a 1-0 lead after one.
St. Lawrence rebounded in the second period with two goals. Only 49 seconds into the period, the Saints' Vanessa Emond tied the game up off assists from Karell Emard and Kelly Sabatine. Foley scored her second goal of the contest to put Dartmouth back on top five minutes later. She has 13 goals on the season. She scored on a power play with assists going to Komarek and junior Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alta.). St. Lawrence tied the game again with 3:16 remaining in the period. Alley Bero scored the goal to push the contest into a 2-2 tie after two periods.
Holdcroft finished the game with a career-high 38 saves to earn her 12th win of the season. The Saints' Maxie Weisz made 23 saves in the losing effort. The Big Green committed 10 penalties for 20 minutes, and St. Lawrence had seven penalties for 22 minutes.
Dartmouth plays at Clarkson on Saturday at 3 p.m.
