POTSDAM, N.Y. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team overcame a 1-0 deficit in the first period to earn a 3-1 victory at Clarkson on Saturday. Juniors Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) and Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alta.) each had multiple points to lead to the win. The Big Green improved to 17-9-0 overall and 13-7-0 in the ECAC. Clarkson fell to 11-14-6 overall and 8-7-4 in the conference. Dartmouth has won eight of its last nine games and three straight. It marked the first loss for Clarkson since Jan. 15.
Fischer had the best game for the Big Green with three points. She scored the first goal for the team to tie the game at one. It came 11:24 into the first period off assists from Foley and junior Jenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.). It was the eighth goal of the season for Fischer. The two teams went into the first intermission tied.
It took another 11 minutes of play before Dartmouth took its first lead of the game. Sophomore Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ont.) broke the tie with her 13th goal of the season off an assist from Fischer. The score remained 2-1 the next 27 minutes of action before Foley scored an empty-net goal to secure the victory. Fischer again assisted on the score. It was Foley's 14th goal of the season.
Freshman Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) once again controlled the crease for the Big Green. She made 19 saves to earn her 13th victory of the season. Dartmouth took more shots in the contest, 33-20. Neither team took advantage of power play opportunities. The Big Green went 0-for-6 and the Golden Knights went 0-or-4. Clarkson scored its lone goal 6:19 into the game. Carly Mercer recorded the goal off an assist from Vanessa Gagnon.
The win keeps the Big Green in third place in the ECAC and the team has clinched a spot in the conference tournament. Dartmouth heads into the final weekend of the regular season with a chance to clinch a top four spot and home ice in the first round. The Big Green host Cornell on Friday at 7 p.m. and Colgate on Saturday at 4 p.m.
