HANOVER, N.H. — On Friday, the 10th-ranked Dartmouth women's hockey team did something no other team in the ECAC did this season, beat second-ranked Cornell. The Big Green jumped out to a 4-0 lead through two periods and hung on for a 4-2 win at Thompson Arena. The victory clinched the third spot in the conference for Dartmouth, who will host a best of three series in the first round of the ECAC tournament next weekend. Dartmouth improved to 18-9-0 overall, 14-7-0 in the ECAC and 7-3-0 in the Ivy League. The Big Red dropped to 25-2-1 overall and 19-1-1 in the conference.

The Big Green scored early and had a 2-0 lead midway through the first. Junior Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) scored both of Dartmouth's first period goals. The first came 5:43 into the opening frame, and came after multiple shots by Dartmouth. Three different skaters had their shots stopped before Foley scored the goal. Sophomore Sally Komarek (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ont.) assisted on the goal.

Foley's second goal came with eight minutes remaining in the first. After a couple quick passes from senior Amanda Trunzo (Andonver, Minn.) and sophomore Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Que.), Foley beat goaltender Lauren Slebodnick on the right side for the score. Each of the Big Green's first two goals came on the power play.

In the second period, it was more of the same for Dartmouth. Junior Geneva Kliman (Bethel Park, Pa.) slapped a shot from just inside the blue line for the Big Green's third power play goal of the game. Coming into the contest, the Big Red had only allowed two power play goals all season. Dartmouth scored another goal with 1:53 remaining in the second period off the stick of Dumais. She took a pass form Trunzo and ripped a shot that found the top left corner of the net.

In the third period, Cornell finally got on the scoreboard off a goal from Karlee Overguard. The Big Red added another goal with six minutes left in the game, trying to put the pressure on Dartmouth. Cornell put up a flurry of shots, 16 in the period, but freshman Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was up for the challenge. The goaltender made 33 saves, earning her 14 win of the season.

Cornell committed seven penalties compared to only five for the Big Green. Dartmouth finished 3-for-6 on the power play, while the Big Red ended, 0-for-5. Trunzo finished the game with three assists for three points. Dumais tallied two assists and scored a goal for three points and Foley had two points.

The Big Green have won four straight games and nine of their last 10. Dartmouth hosts Colgate on Saturday at 4 p.m. for Senior Night and Pink at the Rink.
