HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's hockey played its final game of the regular season on Saturday and defeated Colgate, 4-3, at Thompson Arena on Senior Night. The Big Green jumped out to a 3-0 lead six minutes into the second period, but had to withstand a late rally by the Raiders to secure the victory. The win improved the Big Green to 19-9-0 overall and 15-7-0 in the ECAC. Colgate dropped to 11-19-3 overall and 8-12-2 in the conference.
Dartmouth scored one goal in the opening period off the stick of junior Erica Dobos (Bethel Park, Pa.). It was her fifth goal of the season. The Big Green turned a 1-0 lead in the first period into a 3-0 lead six minutes into the second. Junior Jenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.) netted her ninth goal of the season three minutes into the second frame, and junior Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) scored three minutes later for her 17th of the season.
Colgate responded a minute later when Shannon Doyle scored, while the Big Green had two players in the penalty box. The Raiders cut the lead to 3-2 after Janne Klynstra scored off a rebound from Amanda Kirwan. Sophomore Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Que.) gave Dartmouth a two-goal lead entering the second intermission after a quick pass from senior Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.).
In the third period, it took 14 minutes before either team scored a goal. Colgate's Rachel Walsh cut the lead to one off assists from Jessi Waters and Kirwan. The Raiders tried all they could to tie the game, but the Dartmouth defense and goaltender Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) held on for the victory.
Holdcroft finished with 24 saves for her 15th win of the season. Colgate's Kimberly Sass made 26 saves in the loss. The Big Green committed four penalties for eight minutes and the Raiders had nine penalties for 29 minutes. Hobeika finished the game with a team-high two points on a goal and an assist.
It was the final regular season home game for the class of 2011; Trunzo, Katie Horner (Brooklyn Park, Minn.), Larissa Roche (Thorhild, Alta.) and Alyssa Boehm (Waterford, Conn.) It wasn't the last time the four seniors will play on home ice, because the Big Green finished third in the ECAC. Dartmouth will host a best of three playoff series next weekend against sixth-seeded Clarkson. The game on Friday, Feb. 25, will be at 3:30 p.m., the game on Saturday is at 2 p.m., and if a third game on Sunday is necessary it will be at 2 p.m.
