HANOVER, N.H. — The ninth-ranked Dartmouth women's hockey team came from behind on Saturday to defeat Clarkson, 4-2, at Thompson Arena. The Big Green staved off elimination by erasing two different one-goal deficits. Dartmouth improved to 20-10-0 on the season and the Golden Knights dropped to 14-16-6.
The two teams entered the third period with the score tied, 2-2. Two minutes into the period, Clarkson had the puck in its own end, but turned it over to sophomore Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ont.). From the left side, Nanji broke to the center of the ice and fired a shot past the goaltender to give the Big Green its first lead of the contest. The Golden Knights put the pressure on Dartmouth the rest of the game, taking 10 shots in the frame. Freshman Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was up for the challenge and made stop after stop to keep the lead.
Clarkson pulled its goalie with two minutes left and senior Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) took advantage by scoring an empty net goal. It was Trunzo's 15th score of the season and her 66th in her career. She is now tied ninth-place on the Big Green's all-time goal's list.
The Golden Knights scored the only goal in the first period to gain a 1-0 advantage. Gabrielle Kosziwka deflected a pass that skipped over the glove of Holdcroft seven minutes into the game. Dartmouth tied the game six minutes into the second period on a power play goal by sophomore Sally Komarek (Minneapolis, Minn.). It was her sixth goal of the season. Clarkson responded five minutes later to regain a one-goal advantage. Sophomore Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Que.) tied the game two minutes after that on a power play goal. It was her 14th of the season.
The Big Green took advantage of their power play opportunities, converting on 3-of-6 chances. Clarkson went 0-for-3 on the power play. Holdcroft finished the game with 24 saves to earn her 16th win of the season.
The two teams will play again on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the winner advancing to the semifinals of the ECAC tournament.
