HANOVER, N.H. — The Big Green saw their three-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday in a 18-10 loss at seventh-ranked Duke. It was the second quarter that proved to be the downfall for Dartmouth with the Blue Devils scoring 10 goals to blow the game open. Freshman Jeff Perkins (Dallas, Texas) led the team with five points on four goals and an assist.
SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
Dartmouth enters the game against North Carolina with a 3-2 record and are 2-1 on the road this season. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU at 7 p.m. After the contest against the Tar Heels, the Big Green begin conference play at home against Harvard on March 26 at 2 p.m.
Dartmouth has six players who have recorded double-digit points through five games. Junior co-captain Kip Dooley (Minneapolis, Minn.) leads the team with 16 points on six goals and a team-high 10 assists. Perkins is second on the squad with 14 points on a team-best 12 goals and two assists. Junior Drew Tunney (Greenwich, Conn.) is tied for third with 11 points even though he has only played in three games. He has 10 goals and one assist. Senior captain Rhett Miller (Dallas, Texas) also has 11 points on seven goals and four assists. Sophomore Nikki Dysenchuk (Darien, Conn.) and junior John DeChiaro (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) each have 10 points.
In net, junior Fergus Campbell (New Canaan, Conn.) has started all five games and has an 11.18 goals against average. In 262:58 minutes, he has made 44 saves, including 17 in the win at Sacred Heart.
The team is averaging 12.00 goals per game, while allowing 11.00. The Big Green take 40.8 shots per game and grab 33.80 ground balls per game. Dartmouth is 6-for-19 in man-up situations for a 33.3 percent conversion rate.
EVERY-GAME SCORERS
Dooley continued his streak of scoring in every game the Big Green has played this season in the loss at Duke. He now has 16 points on six goals and 10 assists. His season high was five points at Holy Cross on two goals and three assists.
The only other Dartmouth player to score in every game he has played in is Tunney. He sat out the first two games, but has 11 points in the three games he has played this year.
FAMILIAR FACE
In the game against Duke on Sunday, it was a family affair for freshman Brendan Rotanz (Westport, Conn.). Rotanz's older brother, Rob, is a junior midfielder for the Blue Devils. In the game, Rob Rotanz scored two goals and Brendan Rotanz took two shots.
NATIONAL LEADERS
The Big Green have a couple of players who are among the national leaders after their first five games. Perkins is tied for second in goals per game at 3.00. Davey Emala of Georgetown leads the nation at 3.17 goals per game. Perkins is also second in shot percentage at .706. Deron Dempster of Yale is in the top spot with a .733 shot percentage.
Dooley is tied for fourth in assists per game at 2.00. Jeremy Boltus of Army leads the nation at 3.00 assists per game. The Big Green as a team are seventh in points per game (19.6) and are eighth in scoring offense (12.0).
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina enters Tuesday's game with a 5-2 record, and is ranked sixth in the country by the USILA. The Tar Heels have won four out of five, but lost their last home game to Duke, 14-9.
Nicky Galasso leads the team with 24 points on 12 goals and 12 assists. Thomas Wood is second with 13 goals and seven assists. Two players are tied for third with 19 points. Marcus Holman has 15 goals and four assists and Billy Bitter has 11 goals and eight assists.
In net, Chris Madalon has played every minute for the Tar Heels. He has a 9.43 goals against average, 65 saves, a .496 save percentage and a 5-2 record.
SERIES HISTORY
Tuesday will be the 12th meeting between the two schools. The teams first played on March 31, 1952 at UNC. The Big Green won that game and the first three in the series, but the Tar Heels have won the last eight games. Last season, North Carolina won on its home field, 15-6.
