HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's track and field team hosted Vermont and Middlebury on Sunday, and senior David Irving (Manchester, N.H.) led the Big Green to a victory. Dartmouth finished first with 105 points, Vermont took second with 46 points and Middlebury placed third with 40 points. In all, Dartmouth won 14 of the 19 events.
Irving dominated the throwing events by taking first in the hammer throw, discus and shot put. In the shot put, Irving won with a throw of 15.91 meters. Irving's winning throw in the discus was 50.57 meters and his mark to win the hammer throw was 58.47 meters.
The Big Green had three other winners in the field events. Freshman Ben Nollet (Storrs, Conn.) won the high jump at 1.90 meters. In the pole vault, freshman Josh Cyphers (Grantham, N.H.) took the top spot at 4.27 meters. In the javelin, senior Chris Roe (Berwyn, Pa.) placed first with a personal best of 61.39 meters.
Sophomore Connor Reilly (Niskayuna, N.Y.) led Dartmouth in the running events. He took the top spot in the 100-meter dash at 11.12 and won the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 21.99. In the 400 meters, freshman Jalil Bishop (Twinsburg, Ohio) crossed the finish line first at 49.90. Senior Tom Robbins (Evanston, Ill.) won the 800-meter run at 1:53.41. In the 400-meter hurdles, senior Joe Lonek (Epping, N.H.) took the top spot at 54.95.
In the distance events, Freshman Steve Mangan (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) won the 1500 meters at 3:57.12, and freshman David Connolly (Atlanta, Ga.) won the 5000 meters at 16:08.70. In the last event of the meet, the 4x400 team of sophomore Brendin Beaulieu-Jones (Vernon, Conn.), junior Evan Bryant (Baltimore, Md.), Lonek and Bishop won with a time of 3:19.95.
Dartmouth competes next week at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational on April 22-23.
