NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Junior Peter Williamson (Hanover, N.H.) placed among the top 10 at the Yale Spring Opener on Saturday, helping Dartmouth finish the first tournament of the spring for the Big Green in fifth place out of 11 teams. Dartmouth carded a 309-304=613 (+53) at the Yale University Golf Course on the day, just four strokes back of the top Ivy finisher, Harvard.
Rhode Island won the team title with a 597 (+37), four strokes ahead of Sacred Heart, while there was a three-way tie for first between Harvard's Mark Pollak, Holy Cross' Steven Zychowski and Rhode Island's Andrew Fiorentino at six-over par.
Williamson, a co-captain for the Big Green, posted a 74 in the first round before finishing the day with a 76 to shoot a 10-over 150 to tie for 10th. His fellow co-captain, senior Davis Mullany (Great Barrington, Mass.), was just one stroke behind him in a tie for 13th with a 76-75=151 (+11).
Also contributing to the team score were freshman Joe Mazier (Atlanta, Ga.) in a tie for 35th with an 82-76=158 (+18), sophomore James Pleat (Nashua, N.H.) with a 77-83=160 to tie for 42nd and junior Teddy Overton (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) with an 87-77=164 (+24) to tie for 55th.
Sophomore Andrew Jankowski (Elkins, N.H.) distinguished himself playing as an individual by tying for 26th with a 79-76=155 (+15).
Dartmouth hits the links again next weekend at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
