HANOVER, N.H. — By virtue of claiming the best conference record in the Rolfe Division for a fourth consecutive year, Dartmouth (28-10, 14-6 Ivy) will attempt to win its third straight Ivy League title in the best-of-three Ivy Championship Series (ICS) this weekend at the Gehrig Division champion, Princeton (21-20, 15-5 Ivy). The two teams will play a doubleheader at Clarke Field on Saturday beginning at noon, and a third game on Sunday at 1 p.m. if they split the twinbill.
Neither team is a stranger to the championship series as this is Dartmouth's seventh trip in the past 12 seasons, while the Tigers will be making their 11th appearance since the format began in 1993. Princeton played in the championship nine straight years (1996-2004), but this is its first appearance since 2006.
The two schools have played each other three times in the ICS, with Princeton winning each of the three showdowns. In 2000, the Tigers won the first two games, 5-2 and 4-3; the 2001 series went three games as the Big Green won the first game before dropping the next two; the most recent encounter was in 2004 when Princeton won by scores of 14-3 and 5-4 in 10 innings.
Dartmouth is 2-4 in its six appearances in the ICS having won each of the past two years, and the Tigers are 6-4 with the three victories over the Big Green, and titles in 1996, 2003 and 2006 as well.
Check back later in the week on the official web site for Dartmouth Athletics, DartmouthSports.com, for information on any streaming and live stats that will be available from the games at Princeton.
Before the championship weekend takes place, however, Dartmouth travels to Hartford on Tuesday, May 3, for one last regular-season contest against the Hawks at 3 p.m. Fans can watch the video stream of the game through the Hartford web site for $4.95 or simply keep up with the live stats.
