HANOVER, N.H. — The eighth-ranked Dartmouth women's squash team had two matches on Friday, earning one win and suffering one loss. The Big Green lost to second-ranked Yale, 9-0, but beat 11th-ranked Middlebury, 8-1. Dartmouth moved to 5-6 overall and 1-5 in the Ivy League. The Bulldogs improved to 15-0 overall and 6-0 in the Ivy League, and the Panthers fell to 11-7.
Despite not winning a match against Yale, junior Sarah Loucks (Boston, Mass.) lost in four at third singles, and sophomore Melina Turk (Winnipeg, Manatoba) also fell in four games at fourth singles.
Against Middlebury, six of the Big Green's eight wins came in four games. Junior Becky Lau (Toronto, Ontario) topped Abigail Jenkins at No. 2, 11-5, 16-18, 11-7, 11-3. In the third spot, Loucks defeated Charlotte Dewey, 8-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-9. Turk won at fourth singles, 6-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-3. At the No. 7 spot, sophomore Katherin Nimmo (Wellesley, Mass.) bested Molly Hubbard, 11-3, 8-11, 11-6, 11-6.
In the eighth spot, senior Julia Watson (Rocky Mount, N.C.) beat Lindsay Becker, 9-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11-1. Freshman Helena Darling (New York, N.Y.) earned an 11-6, 9-11, 11-3, 11-5 victory at ninth singles over Anne Ulrich. At No. 1 singles, junior Corey Schafer (Natick, Mass.) needed five games, but pulled out a 7-11, 11-9, 12-10, 7-11, 12-10 victory over Elena Laird. The only sweep for Dartmouth came at sixth singles with sophomore Kensy Balch (Edmonton, Alberta) topping Amanda Chen, 11-8, 11-4, 11-8.
The Big Green plays at Brown on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m.
