DURHAM, N.C. — The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team lost its first game on the road on Sunday in a 20-9 defeat at 14th-ranked Duke. The Blue Devils never trailed in the contest and improved to 6-3 on the season. The Big Green fell to 2-2 and 1-1 away from Scully-Fahey.
Duke did most of its damage in the second and third quarters. The Blue Devils outscored Dartmouth 6-1 in the second and 9-3 in the third. Duke held a 19-6 advantage going into the final period. The Blue Devils scored the first goal of the fourth, and the Big Green ended the game with the final three scores.
Freshman Adam Hull (Saint James, N.Y.) registered his first and second goals of his collegiate career in the second half as one of seven Dartmouth players to score. Senior Colin Delaney (Darien, Conn.) also had two goals, with one in the second quarter and one in the third.
Senior Drew Tunney (Greenwich, Conn.) led the team in points with four on a goal and three assists. It marked the second time this season Tunney has had at least three assists in a game. Junior Nikki Dysenchuk (Darien, Conn.) had three points on a goal and two assists. Freshman Adam Fishman (Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded his first collegiate assist and point when he assisted on Hull's second goal.
The Blue Devils had three players with four goals in Josh Dionne, Jordan Wolf and Robert Rotanz. Wolf also added three assists. Rotanz is the older brother of current Dartmouth attackman Brendan Rotanz (Westport, Conn.). Brendan Rotanz had one goal in the game.
Each team went 3-for-4 in man-up situations. Duke had 35 shots with Dartmouth taking 34. The Blue Devils grabbed 37 ground balls compared to 27 for the Big Green.
Senior Fergus Campbell (New Canaan, Conn.) took the loss for the Big Green, allowing 14 goals. He finished with five saves. Junior Bernie Susskind (Highland Beach, Fla.) played for the first time this season at goalkeeper. He allowed six goals and had three saves in 23 minutes.
Dartmouth will stay in the Tar Heel State and play at North Carolina on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
