HANOVER, N.H. — The Big Green suffered their worst loss of the season on Sunday at Duke, 20-9. The Blue Devils separated from the Dartmouth in the second and third quarters to secure the victory.
Senior Drew Tunney (Greenwich, Conn.) led Dartmouth in points with a goal and three assists. Junior Nikki Dysenchuk (Darien, Conn.) added a goal and two assists.
SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
Dartmouth enters its second game of three straight away from Scully-Fahey Field. The Big Green are 2-2 on the season after losing two straight. It will mark the third road game of the season for the team with Dartmouth holding a 1-1 record in the previous two.
Through four games, the team has three players with double-digit points, 11 who have recorded a point and four with a goal and an assist. Tunney leads the team in points with 16 on six goals and 10 assists. Sophomore Mike Olentine (Princeton, N.J.) is second with 11 points on six goals and five assists. Junior Chris Costabile (Sykesville, Md.) is in third with 10 points on 10 goals. Dysenchuk has eight points on three goals and five assists for fourth. Freshman Brendan Rotanz (Westport, Conn.) and senior Colin Delaney (Darien, Conn.) are tied for fifth with five points. Rotanz has five goals and Delaney has four goals and one assist. Adam Hull (Saint James, N.Y.) leads the freshman class with two points on two goals.
Senior Fergus Campbell (New Canaan, Conn.) has started all four games for Dartmouth this season. He has a 11.60 goals against average, a 2-2 record, 34 saves and a .447 save percentage in 217:18 minutes.
The team is averaging 9.75 goals per game, while allowing 12.00 goals against. The Big Green take 36.8 shots per game and grab 28.00 ground balls per game. The team is 6-for-18 in man-up situations for a conversion rate of 33.3 percent.
EVERY-GAME SCORERS
Through four regular season games, the Big Green have three players who have scored in each game. Olentine leads the group with 10 points, highlighted by his three goal two assist performance in the loss to Bellarmine.
Dysenchuk has eight points in the four games with his season high (three points on a goal and two assists) in the loss at Duke. Rotanz is the third member of the group with five points. He has registered a goal in each game with a two-goal performance against Bellarmine.
SIBLING RIVALRY
For the second time in two years, the Rotanz brothers played on the same field competing for different teams in Duke's win over Dartmouth. Rob Rotanz, the elder of the two brothers, scored four goals on four shots for the Blue Devils. Brendan Rotanz had a goal on three shots for the Big Green and grabbed one ground ball. In last year's game, also played at Duke, Rob scored two goals and Brendan took two shots.
TUNNEY'S ASSISTS & POINTS
Tunney totaled three assists in a game for the second time this season in the loss at Duke. He had a goal and three assists this past Sunday.
The senior had nine points on three goals and six assists in the victory over Sacred Heart earlier this season. The attackman is fourth in the country in assists per game at 2.5. Steele Stanwick of Virginia leads the nation at 3.13.
Tunney is 15th in the nation in points per game at 4.0. Tucker Hull of Navy leads the country with 5.71 assists per game.
CAREER FIRSTS
Dartmouth had two freshman record the first points of their careers on Sunday. Hull registered two goals for his first and second collegiate scores.
Freshman Adam Fishman (Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded his first collegiate assist and point when he assisted on Hull's second goal in the loss.
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina enters Wednesday's game having played four more games than the Big Green. The No. 14/15 Tar Heels are 5-3 overall after falling at Duke on Friday, 13-11. The loss is the third in the last four games for UNC, but the team did beat Princeton on March 10.
Junior Marcus Holman leads the team in points with 23 on 12 goals and a team-high 11 assists. Freshman Joey Sankey is second with 12 goals and eight assists for 20 points. Freshman Jimmy Bitter and junior Davey Emala are tied for third with 14 points. Bitter has 11 goals and three assists and Emala has 10 goals and four assists.
Junior Steven Rastivo has started all eight games for the North Carolina. In 405:00 minutes, he has a 9.33 goals against average, 72 saves, a .533 save percentage and a 5-3 record.
The Tar Heels average 11.88 goals per game, while allowing 9.12 goals against. The team takes 35.1 shots per game, and is 9-for-20 in man-up situations for a 45.0 percent conversion rate.
SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday will be the 13th meeting between the two schools. The teams first played on March 31, 1952 at UNC. The Big Green won that game and the first three in the series, but the Tar Heels have won the last nine games. Last season, North Carolina won on its home field, 12-7.
