BOSTON – The Dartmouth women's cross country team ran to a seventh-place finish Saturday at the 2014 New England Championship.
The Big Green posted 239 team points on the rain-soaked 5K Franklin Park Course, while UNH was the top squad with 61 points and three top-10 finishers.
The seventh-place finish was a seven-spot improvement for the Green after claiming 14th at this meet last season.
Dartmouth's top runner on Saturday was sophomore Helen Schlachtenhaufen, who claimed 14th overall in 18:02.84. Schlachtenhaufen was also the second Ivy Leaguer to cross in a field that featured 262student-athletes.
Seniors Claudia Pham (30th, 18:16.09) and Meggie Donovan (37th, 18:24.32) were the next two Big Green harriers to finish.
Freshman Bridget O'Neill (69th, 18:44.15) followed soon thereafter, while sophomore Erin McConnell (113th, 19:02.36) rounded out the scoring for the Dartmouth women.
Freshmen Bridget Flynn (122nd, 19:07.00) and Abby Livingston (141st, 19:20.59) were the other two competitors to represent the Green and White on Saturday.
The team is back in action next Friday, Oct. 17 in two meets, splitting up between Wisconsin and the Rothenberg Invite in Rhode Island.
