NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After going undefeated in their match against Rutgers on Saturday, the Dartmouth women's tennis team returned to the court for the final day of the Bulldog Invitational on Sunday morning, wrapping up the weekend by going 3-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles against Pitt. This brought the Big Green's overall record for the weekend to 10-2 in singles and 4-2 in doubles.
Throughout the three days of action at Yale, senior Akiko Okuda and freshman Julia Schroeder went undefeated in singles, winning three apiece.
“We had another outstanding performance today,” head coach Bob Dallis said. “We competed incredibly hard and our character showed in the way that we played. No. 1 doubles was down and saved three match points and dominated from there on out. Okuda was down 4-1 in both the first and third sets and was able to come back to win the match. We had a very high-level, competitive performance today.”
At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Taylor Ng and freshman Alexxis Kiven found themselves in a hole with Amber Washington and Lolade Ogungbesan. They trailed 7-5, 40-15, before rallying to even the score at 7-7 and then won the tiebreak, 7-4, to take the match. At No. 3 singles, senior Akiko Okuda won the first set against Amber Washington by a score of 6-4, before falling in the second, 6-2. In the final set, she was able to secure a 6-4 victory.
The Big Green will return to Yale this week for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championship, which will take place from Thursday, Oct. 16 through Tuesday, Oct. 21.
