HANOVER, N.H. – For the first time since starting its season almost two months and four tournaments ago, the Dartmouth women's tennis team was able to play on home courts on a chilly Halloween afternoon and host the Big Green Invite. Throughout the weekend, the Green will host Boston University, UMass and Minnesota.
“It was great having a chance to play at home in front of our fans,” head coach Bob Dallis said. “Their energy helped pull us through some of the difficult moments during the match.”
Against UMass, Dartmouth went undefeated in singles and split its doubles matches, going 1-1.
At No. 1 singles, sophomore Taylor Ng battled against Ana Yrazusta Acosta, ultimately winning the match by a score of 7-5, 6-4. Freshman Kristina Mathis had a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Aarzoo Malik at No. 2, 6-4, 6-3, while senior Akiko Okuda defeated Anna Woosley in the No. 3 spot, 6-4, 7-5. At No. 4, freshman Julia Schroeder had a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Carol Benito.
In doubles action, Yrazusta Acosta and Benito had an 8-5 win over Ng and freshman Alexxis Kiven, while, at No. 2, Mathis and Schroeder took down Malik and Arielle Griffin, 8-3.
