HANOVER, N.H. – The day after winning all of its singles matches against UMass, the Dartmouth women's tennis team returned to the courts at home for day two of the Big Green Invite. Playing four singles matches and two doubles matches against Big Ten member Minnesota, the Big Green went 5-1 on the day. This is Dartmouth's first home event of the 2014-15 season.
This is the Green's first home event of the 2014-15 season.
“We played much better doubles today,” head coach Bob Dallis said. “There was a lot more positive energy.”
At No. 1 singles, sophomore Taylor Ng had a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Carolina Ryba while, at No. 2, freshman Kristina Mathis won two close sets against Aria Lambert, securing a 7-6, 6-4 victory.
In the third position, Jessika Mozia defeated senior Akiko Okuda in a hard-fought battle by both players, dropping the first, 2-6, before winning the remaining two sets, 7-5, 7-6(8). At No. 4, freshman Julia Schroeder had a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Julia Courter.
At No. 1 doubles, Mathis and Ng paired up to defeat Paula Rincon-Otera and Mehvish Safdar, 8-5. In the second spot, Okuda and freshman Alexxis Kiven handed Maja Vujic and Kendall Heitzner an 8-4 loss.
The final day of the Big Green Invite will start at 1 p.m. tomorrow when Dartmouth faces Boston University.
