NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After competing there the weekend before, the Dartmouth women's tennis team returned to Yale on Thursday for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships. Two Big Green doubles teams played on the first day of the five-day event.
More than 100 women's collegiate tennis players representing 33 colleges will go head-to-head throughout the week. The tournament will prove to be a solid test for the Green, as the team will face off against top programs within the NCAA.
Junior Taylor Ng and freshman Alexxis Kiven went undefeated on the day. The Big Green duo defeated Aarzoo Malik and Arielle Griffin of UMass, 8-4, before besting Army's Elle Taylor and Nancy Porter by the same score. With the victories, they advance to the round of 16 and will compete again tomorrow evening. Senior Akiko Okuda and freshman Julia Schroeder fell to Dororthy Tang and Amanda Muliawan of Princeton in a very close match by a score of 8-6.
The second day of the ITA Regional Championships will continue tomorrow morning. Schroeder will kick off singles play at 9:30 a.m. when she takes on Komal Sofdar of Syracuse, while Okuda will face Alex D'Ascenzo of Cornell at 12 p.m. Freshman Kristina Mathis and Ng received first round byes and will play later in the day.
