Big Green Fall, 1-0, on Last-Minute UMass Lowell Tally

LOWELL, Mass. – A goal from UMass Lowell's Marzana Fiedtkou with just 22 seconds left in regulation sank the hopes of a weekend sweep for the Dartmouth field hockey team Sunday afternoon.

Fiedtkou scored the lone tally of the game on a last-minute corner play, bouncing the shot past senior goalkeeper Ellen Meyer and into the back of the net to give the River Hawks the 1-0 victory.

Meyer did her best to keep UML off the scoreboard on its home turf of Cushing Field, stopping eight shots before being bested by the last she faced on the day. Her counterpart in the River Hawks' Kelsey Federico turned aside eight, while also getting help via a Carrie Dresser defensive save.

Sunday's loss came a day after Dartmouth had defeated Yale, 4-2, at home and drops its overall record to 5-8 with the non-conference setback. UMass Lowell (5-10) picked up its first ever win against the Big Green in the eighth all-time meeting between the two programs.

Senior Janine Leger was the offensive catalyst for the visitors in the game, attempting five shots with four making their way on goal.

In all, the Green outshot UML, 15-13, while each team was awarded five penalty corners.

Dartmouth will have nearly a week off from competition, as it does not play again until next Sunday, Oct. 26 at Ivy League foe Columbia. Game time from New York is set for noon.
