Men's Cross Country
vs Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational

HANOVER, N.H. – Twelve members of the Dartmouth men's cross country team will approach the starting line near noon on Saturday at West Windsor Fields, seeking to bring the 2014 Ivy League Heptagonal Championship trophy to Hanover.
The Big Green will look to move up in the standings after three straight years of third-place finishes. A team title will move Dartmouth (16) back into a tie with Princeton (17) for the most Heps championships after the Tigers won three in a row from 2010-12 to take the lead.
In a very deep field of talented runners from across the Ancient Eight, The Herb & Marjorie Chase '30 Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Barry Harwick believes that a Big Green win is possible if they can place two runners in the top-10 with one in the first five.
Two of the more likely candidates to accomplish that feat would be junior Curtis King and senior captain Silas Talbot. Both have proven to be Dartmouth's top performers all year in some of the most challenging meets in the region.
Another one of the Green's strong contenders for positioning is junior Tim Gorman, the team's top returner from this meet last season. Gorman was 10th in 23:57.9, surprising many of those in attendance with a strong showing that eclipsed some of his more high-profile teammates at the time.
Another one of Harwick's keys to success will be to have his five scoring runners finish within a 30-second window. If his hopes of two top-10 finishers comes to fruition and the next three Big Green harriers follow suit in that 30-second window, Harwick believes that his team will be in good company to compete for the title.
Because of the depth demonstrated throughout the conference this fall, there is a high chance that the winning team's score will be higher than usual. Harwick's estimate that the winning program will be in the 50-60 point range is based on the level at which all Ivy teams have run so far and speaks to the depth that Dartmouth and the seven other league opponents have cultivated recently.
The men's 8K race is scheduled to begin at noon at West Windsor Fields in Princeton, N.J. — a course that has hosted the last three Heps meets. It will follow the women's meet, which is slated for an 11 a.m. start.
