Brown Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Continuing with its busy fall schedule, the Dartmouth men's tennis team traveled to Rhode Island for the Brown Invitational over the weekend. The Big Green played singles and doubles matches against Boston College, Buffalo and host Brown throughout the two day event. On the first day of action on Saturday, freshman Max Fliegner went undefeated, winning matches against opponents from Boston College and Buffalo.
“The first day of the invite presented another challenge for our players with changed match times and having to move inside, but once again, our guys went about their business in workmanlike fashion,” said assistant coach Tom Boysen. “Aman and Max played very well and got a win against a good team from Buffalo at the number one doubles position, and Max finished our evening on a strong note with a really solid singles win.”
Against Kent Mukai of Boston College on Saturday, Fliegner had a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Sophomore Blake Niehaus fought hard and remained close to Matt Wagner, but ultimately fell in both sets, 6-4, 6-4, while freshman Aman Agarwal won his set against Philip Nelson, 6-1, before dropping the other two, 6-3, 10-7. Against Sergio Arevalillo and Jonathan Hannestad of Buffalo later that evening, Fliegner and Agarwal had a 6-5 victory.
In his match against Brown's Justin To on Sunday, Fliegner took the first set, 6-4, before dropping the final two, 6-2, 10-4. Freshman Paul Midgley had a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Aaron Sandberg, while Agarwall fell to Gregory Garcia by a score of 6-2, 6-4.
“I thought Max played another strong match on Sunday,” continued Boysen. “He pushed an experienced number one player from Brown to the limit with some really good tennis. He can definitely build on the performance he had at this event."
Next up for the Big Green will be the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regionals, which will take place from Thursday, Oct. 16 through Monday, Oct. 20 in Queens, New York.
