HANOVER, N.H. ? Dartmouth Director of Athletics and Recreation Harry Sheehy announced today the launching of an innovative new virtual tour of the college's athletic and recreational facilities.
“With more than $100 million in new and renovated facilities in recent years, we were looking for an effective way to showcase those upgrades to talented prospects and their families,” said Sheehy. “We think the virtual tour will help show prospective student-athletes that this is truly an extraordinary place.”
The new tour features 39 current student-athletes serving as guides, representing all 34 Division I varsity sports as well as club sports, intramurals, physical education, fitness and other recreational activities. One tour stop highlights the ground-breaking Dartmouth Peak Performance initiative, which enables varsity athletes to maximize their potential academically, athletically and personally.
“The admissions office launched a terrific virtual tour of the campus earlier this year, and our tour is intended to be a perfect complement to that experience,” said Deputy Athletics Director Bob Ceplikas, the project's coordinator. “Without leaving their homes, prospects all over the world can see our spectacular campus, our impressive facilities and a tangible commitment to athletic excellence.”
Online viewers can move seamlessly between the campus tour and athletics tour, both of which are designed and hosted by YouVisit. Users can jump to specific areas of interest where they can learn from the student guides, see high-resolution images, view 360-degree panoramas and watch HD videos. Although the tour can be seen on most smart phones and tablets, it is best viewed on a laptop or desktop computer to take advantage of all the interactive features.
“Any Dartmouth coach will tell you that the most crucial juncture in the recruiting process is convincing a prospect to visit the campus,” explained Ceplikas, “so we hope the virtual tours will prove to be very enticing. Once a recruit decides to visit, sees this beautiful campus and meets the incredible people here, we can compete with any school in the country.”
