Men's Tennis Advances Doubles Team to Semifinal at Ivy Plus

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Dartmouth men's tennis team returned to the court on Saturday for the second day of the three-day Farnsworth Ivy Plus Tournament that is being held at Princeton. Seven different members of the Big Green squad made it to the quarterfinals and Dartmouth ended the day with a record of 1-0 in doubles and 6-10 in singles action.

"There were a lot of positive and promising things to take away from today's play," said assistant coach Tom Boysen. "In doubles, we are emphasizing playing the right way and with discipline. As for singles, many of our players were involved in extremely long, hard-fought, competitive matches that had quite a few swings in momentum."

Sophomore Diego Pedraza and freshman Ciro Riccardi earned Dartmouth's doubles victory, defeating Alex and Ian VanCott of Tulane by a score of 8-6 in the quarterfinal of the Black Draw. Riccardi came back to win his second match of the day, this time in singles against Penn's Josh Pompan, dropping the first set, 5-7, before winning the final two, 6-4, 7-6(3).

"I was pleased again today with our toughness and ability to come back from adversity, Boysen continued. "All of these matches are learning opportunities and I am confident that our players will benefit from the work they put in on the courts today."

The third and final day of the tournament will commence tomorrow morning.
