HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's tennis team returned to action after a two-month break, defeating No. 49 Boston College, 4-3, at the Boss Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The last time the Big Green defeated the Eagles was in 2010.
Junior Katherine Yau and freshman Kristina Mathis had a 6-2 victory over Assiya Dair and Katya Vasilyev at No. 2 doubles, while freshman Julia Schroeder and senior Akiko Okuda defeated Emily Safron and Wan-Yi Sweeting, 6-2, at No. 3. In the top spot, sophomore Taylor Ng and sophomore Jacqueline Crawford fell to Jessica Wacnik and Lexi Borr, 6-4. The BC duo is ranked third in the Northeast region.
At No. 1 singles, Ng decisively downed Wacnik, who is No. 61 in the country and No. 1 in the Northeast, dropping just one game on the way to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Mathis clinched the win for Dartmouth with her three-set win at No. 3, defeating No. 12 Assiya Dair by a score of 2-6, 7-5, 7-5. Okuda battled back from a 2-5 second set deficit to win the set, 7-5, but ultimately fell, 6-4, in the third.
Next up for the Big Green will be Kick-Off Weekend on Jan. 24-25 when Brown, Cornell and Mississippi State come to Hanover.
