WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. – The Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team opened the Dartmouth Invitational on Friday with a number of strong swims. Three different Big Green swimmers finished in second place in their respective events.
After day one, the Big Green sit in first with a score of 346.5. UMass is second with 276.5 and Conn. College is third with 268.
Taking part in the two-day, three-session meet that is taking place at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center are host Dartmouth, Connecticut College and Massachusetts.
Dartmouth started the weekend off well by coming in second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:25.81, touching less than three-tenths of a second behind UMass in first with a 1:25.53. The relay, which was made up of junior Daniel Whitcomb, freshman Tony Shen, sophomore Jack Long and freshman Misha Tovmashenko, finished almost two seconds ahead of Conn. College.
The 500-yard freestyle was dominated by freshmen, with the first six spots going to swimmers in their first year of collegiate competition. Finishing highest for the Big Green was Zack Browne in third with a 4:42.22, and he was followed just over a tenth of a second later by Bruno Korbar in fourth with a time of 4:42.40. Henry Senkfor took sixth in 4:42.12, while junior Logan Briggs was seventh with a 4:43.63.
Senkfor touched in second place in the 200-yard IM in 1:55.51, out touching Michael Glenn of UMass by three-tenths of a second. In the 50-yard freestyle, the top eight swimmers in the event were within half a second of each other. Senior Ian Woon was second with a 21.53, finishing seven one-hundredths of a second behind UMass' Owen Wright.
Day two of the Dartmouth Invitational will commence at 10 a.m. Diving, which will take place at Karl Michael Pool, will start at 11 a.m.
