HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth men's lacrosse head coach Brendan Callahan has announced the hiring of Scott Hackett-Dalgliesh as an assistant coach for the 2016 season. Hackett-Dagliesh brings over eight years of coaching experience to the Big Green program.
“I am pleased Scott has decided to join us here in Hanover,” Callahan said. “His passion, intelligence, experience and leadership are all things that jumped out to us through the interview process. These qualities are all things I think will help our program continue to take steps forward in the landscape of Division I lacrosse. Our staff and players look forward to working with and learning from Scott.”
Hackett-Dalgliesh comes to Dartmouth from UMass Lowell, where he served as an assistant coach for the 2014 season. During the team's first year as a Division I program, he helped lead the River Hawks to the team's first victory at NJIT on March 7. Under his guidance as Offensive Coordinator, two rookie attackmen were named to the America-East All-Rookie Team.
Prior to that, he served as head coach at Marywood University for three seasons (2012-2014). Outside the lines with the Pacers, Dalgliesh mentored 30 All-Academic Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) student-athletes and 23 All-CSAC players while improving the retention rate of the team by eight-percent from 2012-2014 compared to 2009-2011. While at Marywood, Dalgliesh also served as Coordinator of Field Operations, where he acted as the athletic department field liaison coordinating and scheduling practices and games.
“Scott fills a position that was left open when Tucker Kear left to become the head coach at Skidmore,” Callahan continues. “I want to thank Coach Kear for his efforts with the program over the last year. There is no doubt in my mind that Tucker has left the program in a better place than when he arrived. We wish him much success.”
Before spending 2011 as an assistant at Brown, Hackett-Dalgliesh assisted at Lafayette (2009-10), where he worked with 2010 Patriot League Coach of the Year Terry Mangan. Serving as a defensive coordinator, Dalgliesh helped lead the Leopards to one of the most improved seasons in Division I. The Leopards would go on to earn the program's first-ever appearance in the Patriot League Championship Tournament.
A 2007 graduate of Dickinson College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Law and Policy, Hackett-Dalgliesh also enjoyed a stellar playing career by setting a plethora of conference and program records at the time. He earned his masters degree in Public Administration at Marywood in 2009.
“We have had a lot of change and transitions in the program over the past year,” Callahan said. “I believe that, while it can be challenging, that ultimately, change and challenges are a good thing. They bring in new energy and ideas and will help us develop as a team. Overcoming challenges creates perseverance. Perseverance leads to proven character. Proven character leads to hope. Hope helps overcome all things. I am excited about what is ahead for the Big Green lacrosse team and to have Scott onboard for the ride.”
