BOSTON – Dartmouth women's cross country senior Dana Giordano is the 2015 NCAA Northeast Regional Individual Champion after winning at Franklin Park Friday afternoon.
Giordano ran the 6K course in 20:25.7 to finish first in a field of more than 250 runners and punch her ticket to the national championship meet in Louisville, Kentucky, next Saturday.
As a team, the Big Green bounced back from their performance at Ivy League Heps two weeks ago with an eighth-place showing at regionals with 211 points to their credit.
Giordano becomes the second female Big Green runner in the last five years to be crowned the regional's individual champion after Abbey D'Agostino also most recently accomplished the feat in 2013 en route to an individual national championship a week later. D'Agostino had previously won the regional in 2011 and 2012.
After Giordano, Dartmouth's Helen Schlachtenhaufen was 28th overall in 21:32, while Sarah Bennett claimed 47th in 21:53.
Reid Watson capped the team's four harriers in the top-50 as she was 50th in 21:57. Leigh Moffett rounded out the scoring in 85th with a 22:26 to her credit with Elizabeth Markowitz running a 22:39 and taking 105th to finish just outside the points.
Providence (49) and Syracuse (92) earned the two automatic team berths to nationals. The Friars' Sarah Collins was second overall behind only Giordano, running a 20:29.0 at Franklin Park.
