BOSTON – The Dartmouth men's cross country team finished fourth at the 2015 NCAA Northeast Regional Friday afternoon at Franklin Park.
Leading the way for the Big Green on the 8K course was junior Daniel Salas in 17th with a time of 31:03.5. As a team, Dartmouth claimed the fourth spot in the region thanks to its 153 points.
After Salas' all-region performance, the Green got some solid showings from its next four runners to solidify the team score and place in the standings.
Peter Geithner was 27th in 21:26 to just miss out on earning All-Northeast Region honors himself as the top-25 individuals are recognized with that distinction. Senior Curtis King was not far back in 29th as he crossed the finish line just two seconds behind Geithner in 31:28.
Joe Chapin was 35th in 31:32, and despite a fall during the race, senior Brian Masterson managed to regain his composure and take 45th in 31:39 to round out the scoring for the Green and White on Friday.
Nat Adams (63rd, 32:01) and Julian Heninger (32:06) were just outside the points for Dartmouth.
National powers Syracuse (29) and Iona (40) secured their spots in the NCAA National Championship next week in Louisville with the automatic berths, while Cornell (114) and the Big Green were the next two teams in the standings with Columbia (156), Providence (169) and Yale (169) immediately following.
The Big Green will now play the waiting game to see if they have earned one of the at-large team berths to nationals. That announcement is expected to come by 3 p.m. on Saturday.
